How to Choose A Window Contractor for Your Project
  • Look for the Contractor License - Is the contractor licensed, and a registered contractor for state. Is the licensee actually managing the business or are they just a qualifier for someone else without one.
  • Get the name of contractors from - Friends and neighbors and associates who have had satisfactory work done. Check the local yellow pages list of licensed builders who do business in your community or your local chamber of commerce
  • Insurance Coverage - Does the contractor have appropriate insurance coverage to protect your interest
  • Get References - Ask the company to see previous job photos and written references from customers. Ask the contractor how long and where they have been in business. Be sure the contractor has a permanent business location and telephone number
  • Get Estimates - Get estimates from different contractors to compare prices. **Remember, the cost of materials and quality will affect the bid. A low bid based on inferior materials may not be any bargain, so consider more than the price alone.** Be sure the estimate specifies the total price, the terms of payment, the kind of materials to be used and the expected time it will take to complete the job.
  • Permits - The contractor will obtain all building or zoning permits. Beware of Contractors that ask you to pull the permit.
  • Get A Contract - The written contract should include, the company name, address, phone number and licensed number of the contractor, and detailed job specification. Read all documents carefully. Don't be afraid to ask questions about anything you do not understand.
